AECOsim Building Designer Plumbing ‐ Piping

This course is designed to learn the basic functionalities of Bentley AECOsim plumbing Building Designer for Building Information Modeling (BIM). plumbing Building Designer allows users and system administrators to customize the delivered data so that you can apply your own company standards, project standards or a combination of both.

Module Prerequisites
• A fundamental knowledge of MicroStation V8i
• An understanding of Plumbing design
• Basic knowledge and understanding of three dimensional design
• Use of AccuDraw and its keyboard shortcuts

Module Objectives
After completing this course, you will be able to:
• Create three dimensional models of Plumbing systems
• Route pipe around the floor plan
• Use AccuDraw to accurately place piping within a model
• Demonstrate how to use auto fittin

Piping
You will now begin to model the Plumbing for the ground floor level that we have
been working with. During the design process, you will use many different
plumbing components to complete the model.
Building Designer is delivered with the most common shapes of piping:
• Round Pipe
• Flex Pipe

When placing piping, the DataGroup Instance Data dialog has the information needed to control width, depth, end type,and other property information, such as material and insulation.
When changing a pipe to a smaller or larger size during your routing, Building Designer will automatically place a transition piece.Fittings, such as elbows, will automatically be placed when routing pipes at angles.

Manipulating Existing Elements
Tools available to manipulate and modify plumbing elements can be found via each of the Plumbing pipes Task interface.

Sprinklers and Other Pipe End Component
In many Plumbing workflows you place the sprinklers in the area you are working in before routing the pipe; Bentley Building Designer makes this easy.
The DataGroup Instance Data dialog allows you to control the size and properties of the object that you are placing as well as all properties about the selected object.
The DataGroup System Definition is a catalog, or a set of many data definitions,where one definition applies for each catalog type; examples of delivered catalog types are flex pipe, elbows, three‐way tees, and valves.

Modify Component
The Modify Component command is used to modify any plumbing component.
Modify Component is found in the Main Building Tools. DataGroup System information is modified in the heads up display view or in the DataGroup Instance Data dialog during the modify operation

Managing Data through the DataGroup Explorer
Now that we have placed some components in our three‐dimensional model we can use the data to help create some reports and schedules. We will use the DataGroup System to help us with this task.
