A guide for NASTRAN EMBEDDED FATIGUE MODEL SET UP

This guide intends to provide the user with the knowledge of setting up a Nastran fatigue analysis in
ANSA environment. The following steps will be described:
Set up the model for a static analysis
Define cyclic material properties
Define physical fatigue properties in the areas of interest
Define the cyclic variation of the static loads
Define loading events consisting of one or more simultaneously cyclic loadings
Set up the header for both static and fatigue analysis

Prerequisites
User should be familiar with some of Nastran keywords demonstrated as well as the relative theory
behind the fatigue analysis that will be presented.

Problem description
The shock tower of the vehicle body is going to be subjected to two forces and a moment as shown
in the picture. Constraints will be applied in two areas of the model as well. The model has spot
welds represented with mesh independent Rbe3-Hexa-Rbe3 elements. Initially, the model will be
set up for a static linear solution and subsequently, cyclic variations will be assigned to each load in
order to perform the fatigue analysis.
